Abraham Verghese: Cutting for Stone: A novel
Reading this now. I first read his 'My Own Country' about his time at a rural Southern hospital as HIV was surfacing. Loved it. I strongly suggest it.
Uwem Akpan: Say You're One of Them
Just finished this and it was hard to read. A book of stories from the perspective of children caught in the middle of genocide, wars, cultural clashes, and economic hardships that bring out the worst in people. So well done that every story hurt.
Dorothy Dunnett: The Unicorn Hunt: The Fifth Book of the House of Niccolo
Greg Mortenson: Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time
This is a Must Read.
John Reader: Africa: A Biography of the Continent
Dense. Very dense. And detailed.
David James Duncan: River Teeth
Stories I come back to again and again. Read just to learn what river teeth are.
Thich Nhat Hanh: The Miracle of Mindfulness
Everybody needs this book.
